Welcome to Old Mill Elementary Academy,
Home of the Koalas!
Old Mill Academy is a school family as we partner with our students, parents, teachers, and staff to provide the best education possible for the children we serve. We are committed to meeting the needs of the whole child—academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.
The Old Mill family is committed to our vision, mission, and pledge as follows:
Vision: OMES—Creating Koalified Leaders
Mission: At Old Mill Academy, we are a community of learners. We recognize, honor, and celebrate the leaders within us!
Pledge: At Old Mill, we…
Excel in all we do
Achieve goals together
Do what is right
We are LEADers!
In order for us to achieve these commitments, we must work together to provide the resources to make this happen. The school provides the learning resources and personnel to facilitate the instruction, but we need the partnership and support of our students and parents to complete the circle. We need for parents to value their child’s education by ensuring the child is regular in attendance and punctual, reading with their child, monitoring homework completion, talking daily to the child about his/her day at school, and communicating with the teachers when there is reason to celebrate or there is a concern.
Another way that parents can support their child and their child’s school is by being an active volunteer and PTO supporter. We need parents to read with children, work on basic math facts, assist teachers with special class activities, assist in the teacher work room by making copies, assist our lunchroom monitors at lunch time, and to be a part of our special and very successful Watch D.O.G.S. program for fathers and father figures to spend a day or more with us to mentor students and be a positive role model for boys and girls. Our PTO is always in need of volunteers to assist with the various opportunities provided for our students both during the school day and after school. Please call our Volunteer Coordinator, Becky Wise, at 869-3215 for information about volunteering. Becky Wise, PTO President, can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Old Mill has a broad range of opportunities for students to supplement core instruction in reading, English/language arts, math, science, social studies, arts and humanities, and practical living/career studies such as PE, music/band, library, STEAM, academic team, chess team, drama club, wellness club, energy team, yearbook club, and STLP. Our Family Resource Center, Leigh Ann Lowery—coordinator (502-869-3212/7412), sponsors various assembly programs, camps, Family Support Group, and other enrichment opportunities throughout the year for our students and families.
As principal, I look forward to partnering with all of our stakeholders to make this an exciting and successful year for each of us.
