Dear Parents of Summer School Students-
With the end of the school year quickly upon us, we know that you will be making plans for your child’s summer vacation and activities. However, the break from school activities often causes students to experience a lag in learning upon returning to school in the fall. Research shows students easily lose a couple of months’ worth of skills during the long summer break.
It is also imperative that students do not fall behind in credits. Any credit that is failed, has to be made up the next year in addition to the classes they must already take. Students must stay up on credits to be able to graduate on time.
North Bullitt High School will again this year provide summer school for students to recover credits missed during the regular school year. This year’s summer school session will be 9 days long. In an effort to maximize instructional time and provide a classroom climate conducive to learning, we maintain very high expectations for students to follow classroom procedures and display appropriate behavior. All school rules will apply including dress code and the Technology Acceptable Use Policy the students sign at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, no meals or transportation will be available. Students are responsible for transportation. Students are expected to attend all summer school dates.
Schedule is as follows:
Dates: May 30, 31
June 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Times: 8 am-11am
An average credit recovery for one semester is 55 hours of computer time. Obviously, students will not be able to finish credit recovery during only summer school hours. Time must be spent outside of summer school hours at home or the public library. However, plans are set to hire teachers in 5 areas: English, Math, Social Studies, and Special Needs. These teachers will be available to tutor students for three hours a day for the dates above. Student chromebooks will be collected for the year on May 17th. A child who is participating in summer school should renew their lease starting May 30th (the first day of summer school for the yearly $35 fee.Students who attend summer school will receive further information regarding getting in touch with someone to assist them in Edgenuity once the program starts.
Your child must fill out the Summer School Enrolment Form which is available at school and return to Katherine Wilson, ESS Coordinator, no later than May 15th, 2017 to be eligible.Questions and concerns may be directed to Ms. Wilson. Please keep in mind that Ms. Wilson is also a classroom teacher and cannot accept phone calls during the school day. The best way to contact her is to email:
