The Mechanical Contractors Association of Kentucky (MCAKY) has donated $5,000 to the Bullitt County Area Technology Center.
The money will be invested in the welding and HVAC programs.
"We are happy to partner with you,” said MCAKY Executive Director Matthew Hammond as he and Leonard Heuser stood with an oversize check with morning welding program students.
New welding instructor Kevin Benet expressed appreciation for the donation.
“We are very grateful,” he said.
The donation comes at a critical time as schools are desperately seeking other forms of revenue.
“We are allotted $18,000 for consumables for our seven programs this school year,” ATC Principal Angela Binkley said noting the need for grinders and other equipment.
Students must be properly trained in welding skills and there is a constant demand for those certified in the trade.
“Businesses need workers,” Heuser affirmed.
