Bullitt East High School's Darrell Vincent Contributes Engineering Knowledge to KDE

Darrell Vincent

Project Lead The Way Engineering Master Teacher Darrell Vincent has been selected to continue to serve on the task force working on Engineering curriculum, standards, and certifications with KDE.

According to Mark Harrell, Engineering Consultant & Director of KYTSA, Career Pathways Branch, Division of College and Career Readiness, Office of Career and Technical Education, Vincent will work specifically with the Engineering Technology Education Curriculum Team.

“You have been hand selected from all of our Engineering Technology Education teachers to represent our group,” Harrell said

The team will be composed of six Kentucky high school teachers who will meet three times per year in person (once in the fall, once in the spring, and once at the KACTE Summer Conference).

“The goal of this team will be to finalize our entry level course standards, develop draft standards for our second course, refine and improve the 17 projects that were developed by teachers this summer, and design a curriculum map for the 17 projects and our new Engineering by Design curriculum,” Harrell explained. The team is also working on Engineering and Technology certifications for each of the engineering fields as well as selecting culminating exams to replace the current KOSSA tests.

Vincent contributed two of the seventeen projects: The American Ninja Warrior Project and a T-Shirt Launcher project.

The ultimate goal of the task force is to create engineering courses for Kentucky schools created by Kentucky teachers.

“It is an honor for me to be one of the six teachers selected for this project and to represent our great school system,” Vincent said.
