North Bullitt High School Mathematics Teacher Christine Bickett was recognized in Frankfort as one of nine semifinalists for Kentucky Teacher of the Year. She is one of the Top Three high school educators in the Commonwealth.
She and 24 colleagues around Kentucky were presented Valvoline Teacher Achievement Award.
“I am humbled and honored to be among the amazing educators who are receiving the Valvoline Teacher Achievement Award,” she said. “This honor is second only to igniting the ‘spark’ in my students.”
Bickett is in her 20th year at North Bullitt teaching mathematics, AP Calculus and Pre-Calculus. Since 2014, she has also served as the Early College Faculty Adjunct Professor at Morehead State University. Her only time out of the district occurred as a math teacher at LaRue County High School in the spring of 1998.
She has earned numerous professional awards during her career including:

- 2015 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)
- 2015-2016 Bullitt County High School Teacher of the Year
- Exceeded AP Calculus AB Qualifying Scores Set by AdvanceKY 2015-2016 and 2013-2014
- Excellence in Teaching Award from Campbellsville University in 2015
- Texas Instruments National TI-Selfie Challenge Winner in 2014
- North Bullitt High School Athletic Hall of Fame (athlete and coach) in 2011
- National Board Certification Adolescence and Young Adulthood Mathematics in 2009
Bickett’s leadership activities include National Board Candidate Support Provider (CSP) 2009-2011, 2013-2018 as statewide provider working with candidates throughout the state including Bullitt, Jefferson, Nelson, McCracken, and Floyd Counties coordinating cohort meetings, one-on-one sessions, and virtual meetings for candidates in distant parts of the state; Mathematics Standards Review and Development Committee (RDC) in 2018 as Senate Bill 1 (2017) calls for the review of academic standards; serving as a high school representative, she works closely with 11 members from elementary, middle, and high schools, post-secondary education, and the business community to make recommendations on changes and clarifications to the Kentucky mathematics standards; Kentucky Core Advocate through Student Achievement Partners 2015-2018 providing support in the implementation and instruction of K-12 standards; PAEMST National Selection Committee through the National Science Foundation in 2017, reviewed applications with a committee of teachers (classroom video, written narrative, and letters of recommendation) from various states. She also wrote feedback for applicants based on their application including strengths and areas for growth; and T3 International Conference Presenter March 2017 on “How the TI-Nspire Navigator Changed the Way I Teach and Assess My Students” (Formative assessment professional development where she demonstrated how to use the questioning writing options, Quick Poll assessment tools, and how to use Live Presenter to allow students to lead discussions and share their work).
Additional leadership activities include National Board Accomplished Teaching Body of Knowledge Work Group 2016-2017 in which Bickett collaborated with stakeholders from schools, districts, higher education, and educational organizations to provide support for pre-service teachers, new teachers, novice teachers, and National Board Certification candidates. She also promoted accomplished teaching using the National Board’s Body of Knowledge; NBHS Mathematics Department Chair 2011-2017 where the curriculum added AP Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles and Dual Credit Pre-Calculus to course offerings as well as secured a classroom set of TI-Nspire CX handhelds and Navigators for every mathematics teacher; National Board Ambassador 2014-2016 for the North Central Team (Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Oldham, Shelby, Nelson, Trimble, Henry, and Washington Counties); Bullitt County CSP Coordinator; Number of Bullitt County candidates increased 850%; Lead Presenter: Jumpstart, 2/13/16, 1/29/16; Orientation, 8/20/15, 11/12/14; Co-Presenter: Homestretch, 4/18/15; Jumpstart, 3/19/15, 2/20/15 -2/21/15, 11/14/15-11/15/15; AdvanceKY Mathematics School Coordinator and Participant 2013-2016. As Coordinator: she worked to increase enrollment of AP mathematics students by 59%, Vertical team meetings facilitator and presenter, Coordinated study sessions and mock exams; As Participant: Statewide Mock Exam Scorer; Exceeded AP Calculus qualifying scores set by AdvanceKY 2014, 2016; 400% personal increase of qualifying scores.
