Thinking Strategies Resources

Six schools in Bullitt County participated in the Thinking Strategies Institute™ in the fall of 2011.  Thinking Strategies comes from the work of the Public Education and Business Coalition out of Denver Colorado.  Thinking Strategies focuses on 8 strategies that improves student learning through a systematic approach in classroom instruction.  This process also allows teachers to truly refine their craft through pedagogical study.  The 8 strategies are:

  • Monitoring for Meaning
  • Activating, Utilizing and Building Background Knowledge [Schema]
  • Asking Questions
  • Drawing Inferences
  • Determining Importance
  • Creating Sensory Images
  • Synthesizing Information
  • Problem Solving

The six schools trained in the fall of 2011 are:  Pleasant Grove Elementary, Mt. Washington Elementary, Eastside Middle, Maryville Elementary, Overdale Elementary, and Zoneton Middle.  Schools set for training in the fall of 2012 are:  Bernheim Middle, Lebanon Junction Elementary, Cedar Grove Elementary, Freedom Elementary, Brooks Elementary, and Hebron Middle.
