Bullitt County Public Schools has been drug testing students since the 2007-08 school year. The program takes a PREVENTION NOT PUNISHMENT approach. Students are required to be a part of the drug testing pool if they are involved in extracurricular competitive school groups or sports and if they park on campus. These activities are a priviledge and therefore can be required for drug testing without the violation of a student’s right to a free public education. Students who test positive will have sanctions imposed on them that only affect their involvement with those activities. Student Drug Testing results do not affect student academic or discipline records and do not become a part of the student’s education records.
The purpose of drug testing is to help students avoid harmful decisions that will negatively impact their success in school and in life. Bullitt County Public Schools is proud to say that MOST students DO NOT use illegal substances.
