Wax Museums Allow Students to Become History

Maryville Elementary School Wax Museum

Where else can you see George Washington, Rosa Parks, Col. Harland Sanders and Amelia Earhart in the same room?

By visiting a wax museum at either Crossroads, Maryville, Old Mill or Shepherdsville Elementary Schools.

Be it a ‘Living History’ or wax museum, the intent is the same. Students choose a history figure, do some research and make a few notes.

Just before the event, they find a costume and props. The day of the museum’s opening, they stand still like a statue before being activated as a number is depressed or an object on a table is located.

Teacher teams sometimes dress as characters themselves adding more flair. Old Mill’s Michele Grey was Sacagawea while Rick Lumpkins was George Rogers Clark and Leslie Biglari was Dolley Madison.

Over at a table was David Searcy as chocolatier Milton Hershey who was quite animated with his presentation and he gave away Hershey Kisses candies.
