Special Education Student Representatives are needed!
Come share your time! Help students in need of this “special” service YOU can provide!
An individual, once trained and approved, serves as a student representative for two years.
An Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) recognizes the student representative as one who must advocate for a child/youth and exercise all the educational rights, responsibilities, and authorities afforded natural parents of a child/youth in need of special education services.
Each public agency shall ensure that the rights of a child or youth, in need of special education services, are protected through the use of a trained student representative if:
No parent can be identified
The public agency, after reasonable efforts, cannot discover the whereabouts of a parent
The child/youth has a foster parent who cannot be defined as “parent” under standards for special education services; or
The child/youth is a ward of the state when all parental rights have been terminated by a court of competent jurisdiction
A student representative must:
Have no conflict of interest
Have knowledge and skills needed to represent the child/youth in educational matters (Bullitt County Schools provides the necessary training)
Not be an employee of Bullitt County Public Schools or other public agency involved in the education or welfare of the child/youth
