The Grant Writing Department at Bullitt County Public Schools is issuing these frequently asked questions regarding the grant writing process.

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance with respect to the grant writing process within the Bullitt County District.


FAQs: Grant Writing


I received a grant over $500. What do I need to do?
If you receive a grant over $500, the grant will need to be presented to the Board of Education for acceptance.

The funds cannot be spent until the Board of Education accepts the grant. Recipients should notify the District Grant Writer and complete the Grant Reporting Form.

The District Grant Writer will include the grant on the upcoming Board of Education meeting agenda for consideration.


I received a grant under $500. What do I need to do?
A grant under $500 does not require acceptance by the Board of Education; however, the grant should be reported to the District Grant Writer as soon as possible and a Grant Reporting Form should be completed and submitted.


I received a gift or donation over $500. What do I need to do?
If you receive a gift or donation over $500 (either monetary or non-), it will need to be presented to the Board of Education for acceptance. No funds can be spent until the Board of Education accepts the gift/donation. Recipients should contact the District Grant Writer and complete the Gift and Donation Reporting Form. The District Grant Writer will include the donation on the upcoming Board of Education meeting agenda for consideration.


I received a gift or donation under $500. What do I need to do?
A gift or donation under $500 (either monetary or non-) does not require the acceptance by the Board of Education; however, the gift should be reported to District
Grant Writer Tera Pierce as soon as possible, and a Gift and Donation Reporting Form should be completed and submitted.


I need to present a $3,000 grant for acceptance by the Board. Is there a deadline to ensure this information is included on the Board agenda?
Typically, the Board of Education meets the fourth Monday of each month. The Board of Education agenda items are due several weeks before the Board of Education meeting. If you are not familiar with the deadline, contact the District Grant Writer to obtain the due date for agenda items. If you miss the due date, the agenda item will not be presented to the Board until the following month. It is imperative to get this information, including the Grant Reporting Form, to the District Grant Writer as soon as possible in order to ensure your request is presented to the Board of Education in a timely manner.


I will be submitting a grant next month. Do I need to notify anyone?
Yes. You will need to complete the Grant Intent to Apply Form no later than 15 business days before the grant deadline. Please also review the Grant Submission
