Maryvillle Elementary School Principal Ruth Esterle has been named Director of Pupil Personnel following the retirement of Pat Smith-Darnell.
“I am super excited!” she said as she and her staff focus on all matters of student attendance.
“My overall initial goals for this position will be to provide support and services to schools and families that will help all students access the necessary curriculum and to communicate and collaborate with schools to initiate ways to help improve attendance districtwide,” she said.
Esterle earned a Provisional Certificate for Instructional Leadership – Principal (all grades, Level I and II) from the University of Louisville. She also has a Rank I in elementary school counseling and a Master’s degree in Education from U of L.
At Bellarmine University, Esterle acquired a Professional Certificate for Teaching Exceptional Children - Learning and Behavior Disorders, grades primary through 12 along with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education - Provisional Elementary Certificate, Grades 1 – 8 and Endorsement for Kindergarten Classroom Teaching.
She served as Maryville’s principal since 2012 ‘surviving’ the most major renovation the school has seen since construction in the 1970’s. Before that, she was a school counselor for five years at Mt. Washington Elementary; classroom and exceptional education resource teacher for 10 years at Watterson Elementary; kindergarten teacher for two years at Portland Elementary; kindergarten, second and third grade teacher for four years at Rangeland Elementary; and first grade teacher for three years at St. Edward School starting in 1988.
