Jackie Roth Selected District Grant Writer

District Grant Writer Jackie Roth

Jackie Roth has been writing, reviewing and managing grants for over 20 years and since last October was looking for something she thought her skill set would match within Bullitt County Schools.

Less than a year later, she has landed the position of District Grant Writer.

“I feel the grant writing position will allow me to use my experience and be a great new challenge for me,” she said.

Roth is keenly aware that education budgets are already tight with some districts are  facing cuts in critical areas.

“I feel teachers, administrators and school districts as a whole have had cuts everywhere they turn,” she said. “I think a grant writer can help find funding through grants that could fund the void left by the cuts. It is important with all the cuts in education that there is someone looking for outside resources to help fill this gap.”

Roth’s short term goals are to meet all school personnel and get a feel for all the grants they are currently writing.

“My long term goals are to help the school personnel find more grants that will benefit the classroom teachers, schools, and district to make the school system a better place,” she said.

Roth also needs to learn what grants are currently in place, organize any re-applications and pursue new funding opportunities.

“I think the greatest challenge I will be facing this first year is getting to know all the grants in the district,” she said. “I look forward to working with each school and meeting all the staff to find out what grants are in each school and also to find out what the schools and teachers are looking for.

She cites the most rewarding part of grant writing is learning an application was successful and the applicant will receive much needed funding.

Roth has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Southeast Missouri State University and is pursuing her Master’s degree.

She worked for 12 years as a Regional Coordinator for the Kentucky Migrant Education Program. During that time, Roth wrote the regional grant, reviewed all the district grants under the region, monitored districts across the state and reviewed those grant applications.

She has also worked with Family Resource Youth Services Centers by writing the grant for the center she coordinated and helped write grants for Early Childhood, Parental Assistance and some other small grants.
