How can you contribute?

Graduate Profile

At BCPS, the foundation of our work is to guarantee with confidence that our graduates are ready for the challenges of 21st-century life, work, and citizenship. Our Graduate Profile defines 21st Century Learning by outlining what we as a community believe is important for student success while attending BCPS and in the future.

One of the key aspects identified in the Graduate Profile is for each of our students to become true Community Contributors through our Core Value of putting service over self. This Thanksgiving season is a good time to reflect on how we, as families and individuals, can encourage our children and ourselves to embrace this commitment to leaving our community a better place than we found it.

Here are just a few ideas of how you can encourage “service over self” during this Thanksgiving season:

  • Donate to or volunteer at a local food bank:

    • Click here to view food banks in Hillview, KY

  • Donate to or volunteer at a local nonprofit or charity:

    • Click here to view options in Mount Washington, KY

  • Clean out your closets and donate old/unneeded clothes to a local thrift store or a clothing drive

  • Put together small bags of deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrushes, sanitary items, snacks, and bottles of water for people in need

There are also lots of ways to contribute in your own home; for instance, everyone at your Thanksgiving Feast can write down and share one thing (or more!) they are thankful for, or everyone can pick up a cleaning role after the meal has been eaten.

Happy Thanksgiving, BCPS! Let’s give back to those around us.
