Bullitt County Public Schools: The Leader in Educational Excellence

Lee Barger Named District Director of College and Career Readiness/Innovative Programs

Lee Barger

The new Director of College and Career Programs/Innovative Programs is former Bullitt Lick Middle School Principal Lee Barger.

"I am very fortunate to have worked under some amazing leaders during my time as a teacher, basketball coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal in Bullitt County Public Schools,” Barger noted. “During this time I’ve developed my own leadership style and how to build capacity in people and build quality working relationships.  Specifically, I’ve learned that the most important thing you can do as a leader is to create trust.”

Prior to Bullitt Lick, Barger served as Bullitt East High School assistant principal. Leaving both was difficult with Bullitt Lick being especially hard since he was completely in charge.

“For three years, I gave everything I had to Bullitt Lick,” Barger said. “It was more than just a job to me. I loved working with the students, staff, and community. I was so proud to be their principal. I want to thank our parents, students, and community members. I have enjoyed these last three years and will always remember the many great moments. You guys are simply awesome. The hardest part about leaving is that I only stayed three years. I really wanted to make a long term commitment.”

The departure of Willie Foster opened a door of opportunity that Barger could not pass up.

“The beauty of this position is that I’m going to be exposed to some of the most innovative items in schools today,” he said. “Bullitt County Public Schools is an innovative district and I plan on working to keep us moving forward in terms of innovative programs and college and career readiness. I will continue working on the projects that Mr. Foster developed. This includes establishing the dual credit Teaching and Learning Pathway at all three high schools and assisting with the expansion of Project Lead the Way in all six middle schools.

Barger will also be collaborating with Superintendent Keith Davis and the district leadership team to determine a long term vision in terms of expansion of innovative programs.

Barger and his wife, Traci, library media specialist at Overdale Elementary School, have two sons. Jackson is six while Benjamin is almost two.

Barger enjoys coaching his kids in youth sports through the YMCA, spending time with his father, Joseph Barger and watching The Walking Dead and its companion show, Fear the Walking Dead.
