Dear BCPS Families,
We are writing today to inform you of a deeply concerning trend that has surfaced on social media and is affecting schools across the nation. This trend encourages students to damage their school-issued Chromebooks by inserting metal objects into charging ports or tampering with internal components. These actions not only endanger students but also threaten the safety of our school environments and the integrity of school property.
Let us be unequivocal: this behavior is extremely dangerous. It has already resulted in electrical injuries and fire hazards in other communities. At Bullitt County Public Schools, we will not tolerate any actions that compromise student safety or damage school property.
Any student found participating in this type of activity will face immediate disciplinary action in accordance with our Code of Acceptable Behavior. In addition, these actions may result in criminal charges related to the destruction of public property.
We are proactively addressing this issue in our schools by raising awareness and educating students on the risks and long-term consequences of engaging in such harmful behavior. However, we also rely on your partnership. Please speak with your child about the importance of making safe, responsible decisions both online and offline. Help them understand that just because something circulates on social media does not make it safe, smart, or worth the risk.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe and our learning environments focused and respectful.
With appreciation,
Dr. Jesse Bacon
Superintendent
Bullitt County Public Schools
