Students in Mrs. Starks’ class had a truly transformational learning experience this past week as they took on the challenge of designing the freshman English final project. Throughout the unit, students have explored culture through literature, art, and media. Using this understanding—along with the course standards and performance tasks—they worked collaboratively to create what they believed would be the most meaningful and engaging final assessment. Yesterday, each group presented their proposed final project, showcasing creativity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the content. It was inspiring to see students take ownership of their learning and design assessments that reflect both rigor and relevance.

Mr. Logan’s Principles of Agriculture students put their meat scientist caps on as they smoked hams! Students selected their own rub recipes, rubbed down their hams, and compared how different seasoning blends impact flavor, texture, and appearance during the smoking process—just in time for Thanksgiving this Thursday! They also tackled a classic meat science question: “What is that pink stuff in the packaging?” (Hint: it’s not blood!) Students learned about myoglobin, meat coloration, and why packaged meats look the way they do—connecting real-world food science concepts to hands-on experience. Through this lab, our students served as… 📘 Mastery Learners as they applied food science knowledge to real meat processing techniques. 🤝 Productive Collaborators as they worked in teams to season, prepare, and manage their hams throughout the smoking process. 💡 Innovative Problem Solvers as they explored how different rubs, ingredients, and science-based factors influence the final product. 💛 Community Contributors by strengthening their understanding of safe, high-quality food preparation—skills they can bring back to their families and community, especially during the holiday season.

North Bullitt Veterinary Science Class conducted a urinalysis on five different dogs to answer the question, “Can you determine if an animal is healthy based solely on its medical history?” By following the Inquiry Method, students created hypotheses, followed procedures, collected data, and wrote professional analyses and conclusions based on their findings. This hands-on lab allowed them to apply real veterinary science skills, deepen their understanding of diagnostic testing, and think critically about how lab results support animal health decisions. Experiences like this prepare our students to help real-world animal shelters and pet owners understand the importance of regular check-ups, early detection, and routine preventive care. Through this lab, our students served as… 📘 Mastery Learners as they practiced technical veterinary skills, including sample handling, urinalysis testing, and data interpretation. 🤝 Productive Collaborators as they worked together in lab groups to compare results, verify accuracy, and support one another’s learning. 💡 Innovative Problem Solvers as they used the Inquiry Method to analyze evidence and answer the challenge question with scientific reasoning. 🌎 Community Contributors as they connected their findings to how routine diagnostic testing can support local animal shelters and pet owners in maintaining animal health.
