ATTENDANCE MATTERS

01/05/2024

Nichols Knights Families,

Welcome to 2024!  It was so great to see everyone’s smiling face when we opened the doors Wednesday morning.  We really miss our students when they are gone. It’s hard to believe that we are already beginning the second half of this school year!  It has been wonderful so far and I know there are many more wonderful things to come. I hope you and your families all had a wonderful winter break and were able to get some rest, relaxation, and some good family time.  I had an amazing break!

Unfortunately, I need to address an issue that has arisen. We need to make a change in our gum policy.  We had allowed gum as long as it was not an issue.  It has become a big issue.  The custodian is finding it on walls, desks, chairs, etc.  But the most troublesome place we have found it is on trays in the cafeteria when students put their trays in the window to be washed. There have been numerous times that gum was discovered and thrown away by cafeteria staff.  If they were to ever not notice the gum and send it into the dishwasher, the consequences would be devastating, and VERY expensive.  Before Christmas, students were told gum was no longer allowed in the cafeteria, but gum was still found on trays 5 more times. The last time was at breakfast.  🙁  FOR THIS REASON, GUM IS NO LONGER ALLOWED AT NICHOLS.  IT HAS ALSO NEVER BEEN ALLOWED ON THE BUS.  Please talk to your child to make sure they understand that there will be consequences if they chew gum on the bus or at school.

So sorry that my message had to take a negative tone today.  Hopefully, students will abide by the new rule and gum will cease to be an issue.
