We had an amazing Dolly Day today 9-25!
Tomorrow, September 25th (9-2-5 aka 9 to 5 day), Overdale Elementary will celebrate the legacy of Dolly Parton with "Butterflies, Books, and Kindness Day." This special day gives our school community a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Dolly’s enduring legacy of literacy, generosity, and joy while fostering a culture of kindness among our students. To help bring the celebration into the classroom, we have put together a list of suggested colors/clothing to be worn on the attached graphic.
Every student will also receive a special butterfly sticker when they walk in as well as celebrate the day with literacy and kindness activities.

Ms. Byrd’s class had their first Mystery Reader today. Mrs. Volpert surprised us, told us about her important job as the FRC coordinator at Overdale and read us two stories! ❤️💙

Fifth graders used Character Body Biographies to dig deeper into the characters in our novel, Blood on the River! 📖
Students worked together to analyze characters from head to toe—examining their thoughts, feelings, words, actions, motivations, relationships, and experiences. They used evidence from the text to support their thinking and made connections about our characters that we may not have noticed before! 🧠💬🔍
It was a great way to bring our characters to life while thinking beyond the surface! ❤️

Don't forget that Shop with a Grown Up is tonight from 5-7 PM. There's still plenty of books and other fun things for purchase at the book fair. Come out and do some holiday shopping without your kids or enjoy some shopping with your student.
