As self-directed navigators, they’ve taken full responsibility for this project, managing everything from planning to execution. Check out some of their work from this week.

The 4th grade students had an exciting field trip to Squire Boone Caverns, where they explored Boone's burial site inside the cave and learned about the cave formation process. They experienced the life of early settlers by making candles, mining for gems, and observing how corn was ground in a gristmill. The trip provided hands-on insights into history and geology, making it a memorable learning experience!
We are excited to announce that the OMES Podcast Team has hit the ground running! This week, our 4th and 5th graders met with Mrs. Joiner and Mrs. Compton to brainstorm ideas for their first podcast episode, which will air the week of October 28th. The students have already shown themselves to be productive collaborators and effective communicators, working together with enthusiasm and creativity to bring their ideas to life. Stay tuned for an exciting launch!

This week's teacher spotlight goes out to Ms. Amanda. "Ms. Amanda has stepped into her new role without hesitation and jumps in wherever needed. She cares about our students and it has been a pleasure watching her form relationships with them. She is an amazing teammate and always willing to help in any way she can. Thank you Ms. Amanda for all you do for us at OMES!" -Mrs. Thompson

For those that are interested in Archery! This Friday is the last day to get your forms in.

This weeks community spotlight goes out to Raptor Rehab. They visited our 3-5 grade students last week. This incredible organization, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured or orphaned birds of prey, introduced us to some fascinating raptors and shared inspiring stories of their recovery efforts. Students had the unique opportunity to see majestic hawks and awe-inspiring owls up close while learning about the vital role these birds play in our ecosystem.
Raptor Rehab’s visit left us all with a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and how we can help protect our local wildlife. We are grateful for their impactful work and the chance to experience it firsthand!

Today the Kindergartners enjoyed having their 5th grade buddies visit! They helped them celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday today. Together they created apple collages and read a magazine about Johnny Appleseed. It was a great morning getting to know their buddies better. The 5th grade buddies are being amazing leaders to the younger students!

We hope everyone has a safe weekend. See you Monday!
