🌟 Student Spotlight: Nora 🌟
As the oldest of three younger sisters, Nora brings such a beautiful sense of care, compassion, and empathy to our school each day. She naturally looks out for her classmates, making sure they feel safe, well, and like they truly belong at Old Mill.
I especially notice Nora’s intentional kindness after lunchtime. She makes sure her classmates are cleaned up and walks with them to their special area, ensuring everyone is included every step of the way.
Nora shines brightly as a leader in her classroom and throughout our school. She truly embodies what it means to be an amazing Community Contributor.
Go Nora! We are so proud of you! 💛✨

Our 3rd graders recently hosted their Fraction Fair Showcase!
Students explored the driving question: What would happen if the world didn’t have fractions? As Self-Directed Navigators, they selected careers and investigated how fractions are used in real life—from farmers and pharmacists to nurses, gamers, and more.
During the showcase, students stepped into the role of Effective Communicators and Productive Collaborators, leading hands-on experiences for families and sharing their learning. We are so proud of their hard work and creativity! 💙

✨ Reformers Then & Now in Mrs. Grady’s 5th Grade ✨
Our 5th graders took their learning beyond the classroom by interviewing staff and students about how we practice inclusion at Old Mill today. After studying reformers from the mid-1800s, they connected past movements for equality to the positive changes happening right here in our school.
Authentic learning, meaningful questions, and powerful conversations in action! 💙

🌟 OMES Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Russ 🌟
This week we are excited to shine our Staff Spotlight on Mrs. Russ!
Mrs. Russ, thank you for always supporting students and truly meeting them where they are. You consistently demonstrate that Students Matter Most in everything you do. Your ability to ensure every student feels capable, valued, and successful does not go unnoticed.
I have personally learned so much from you—especially about the importance of helping every child believe they can achieve. Your encouragement has helped me become more mindful of how I accommodate learning and design experiences so all students can thrive. Watching you in action has pushed me to reflect on my own teaching and refine my practice so I can be more intentional with each student who walks into our gym.
Your dedication, heart, and unwavering belief in students make a lasting impact every single day.
Mrs. Russ, you are a rock star! ⭐💛

🧪✨ Our 5th graders in STEAM have been exploring the physical properties of solids, liquids, and gases.
This week, students took ownership of their learning as Self-Directed Navigators, making predictions and testing what happens when substances are combined. As Productive Collaborators, they worked together to observe and discuss how mass and volume change through hands-on investigation.

Introducing Principal Piper, our Principal of the Day! 💙
Today, Piper stepped into the role with confidence, kindness, and a whole lot of leadership. From greeting students and teachers to visiting classrooms and learning what it takes to lead a school, she truly made the most of her day!

After reading The Lemonade War in ELA and connecting it to our economics unit in social studies, students put their learning into action!
They became entrepreneurs by creating their own goods to sell, designing eye-catching advertisements, and setting prices for their products. Using their Koala Cash, students participated in a fun shopping and selling day, taking turns as producers and consumers. Along the way, they learned about supply and demand, spending, saving, profit, and making thoughtful economic choices!

Have a great weekend, OMES!
