We closed out our Childhood Cancer Awareness Week with a BLACKOUT + OMES School Spirit Day! 🖤💛🐨
All week long, our Koalas showed up with heart, school spirit, and support for children and families impacted by childhood cancer. 🎗️
A HUGE thank you to our OMES families for helping with our donations for the hospitals, too! Your generosity helped make this week about more than just awareness, it gave our students an opportunity to take action and give back to others. 💛

New superpower unlocked: Extra Mile. 💪
Today our students learned that Super Heroes don't do the bare minimum. Going the Extra Mile means helping someone clean up even when you didn't make the mess. Giving your best effort even when you're tired. Noticing a classmate sitting alone and inviting them to join you. Heroes don't say "that's not my problem." They say "how can I help?"
The big takeaway: the extra mile is where most people stop, but it's where leaders show up.
Their leadership challenge: find one moment today to go the extra mile, at school or at home. Help someone, work harder, or do something kind that you didn't have to do. 💛

Mastery Learners in Action!
Our 3rd graders have been hard at work this week adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers using a variety of strategies! Students aren’t just finding the answer; they’re building their understanding, choosing strategies that work for them, and explaining their mathematical thinking. 🧠
We love seeing our Mastery Learners persevere, apply their learning, and grow as mathematicians! 💪
Superpower of the week: Purpose. 🎯
Today our students learned that Purpose means knowing your "why" and letting it guide your choices. Not just going through the motions, but moving with real direction toward the things that matter to you. They talked about how staying focused is tough when distractions are everywhere.
The lesson used Stephen Curry as an example: the NBA's all-time leading three-point scorer didn't get there overnight. He practiced thousands of shots, day after day, even when he was tired. Those small steps, repeated with real effort, built something incredible. The same is true for our students.
Their leadership challenge: do one thing today that shows the kind of person you want to become. At the end of the day, check in and ask: "Did my actions match the purpose I want to live out?" 💛

It sounds simple, but it's how heroes stay calm and strong on the inside even when things feel out of control on the outside. The big question they're carrying with them today: "Am I using my power, or is my power using me?"
Their leadership challenge is to use their Super Hero breath three times today and then teach it to someone at home tonight. So if your student grabs you after school and asks you to smell a flower and blow out a candle, you'll know why. 💛

We have been informed that there is a wreck on Kings Church Road and the road is closed near Kings Baptist Church; the green bus cannot get through. The bus is NOT involved in the accident. Please pick your Old Mill students up in the car rider line. School dismisses at 4:05 and we will keep them here at school until they are picked up.
