Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Biglari

“One of our friends wandered into Nutcracker choir practice last week, picked up a music folder, and joined the group with confidence. Mrs. Biglari responded with patience, joy, and seamless inclusion — exactly what makes our school so special. 💛

Her calm presence and genuine embrace of differences reflect the core values we strive to follow every day. Thank you, Mrs. Biglari, for creating a space where all students feel included and supported.

🧠 Learning + Creating in STEAM! Our 4th graders have been taking their thinking to the next level with Mrs. Compton as they explore the human brain. Students identified the major parts of the brain, learned what each part is responsible for, and are now beginning to design and sculpt their own brain models to show their understanding. We love seeing hands-on learning, creativity, and real-world application come to life at Old Mill! 💡

Thank you to all the families who came out to celebrate Literacy Night with us! Our Related Arts team loved sharing how literacy connects to every area — PE, Performing Arts, STEAM, and Global Explorations — through fun, hands-on stations. Families also enjoyed listening to stories from our Masked Reader and guessing who was behind the mask, as well as creating their own “reading puppy buddies” to take home. It was such a wonderful evening of reading, creativity, and family fun — thank you for making it a success!

✨ Perspective in Action ✨ After reading Shaped by Tradition written by Patricia Millnan and exploring both the author’s and reader’s perspectives, our third graders experienced a challenge inspired by the artist himself — sculpting blindfolded! 🎨 Students quickly realized how their perspective on the artist’s work changed once they felt what it was like to create without sight. A powerful reminder that art—and understanding—often go far beyond what we can see.
