This weeks community spotlight goes out to Mrs. Smith and Johnathon Curtsinger. The Second grade have been getting ready for the Derby festivities by working on a PBL based on the Essential Questions, How do we, as horse enthusiasts, create a program for retired race horses after they can no longer race? Students have had several visitors. The first visitor is a jockey/exercise rider, Johnathon Curtsinger, who was also an Old Mill student many years ago. He was taught by both Mrs. O'Bryan and Mrs. Osborne. The second visitor is a worker from Second Stride Inc. Mrs. Smith talked about ways the organization helps retired race horses to be trained and find new homes. The students have been researching and creating their own programs to help the retired race horses. They have been excited to share their plans with others.
