Sometimes communicating what you’re learning means finding a new point of view!
At Bernheim, Ava took learning to new heights by using a drone to capture the forest and our fieldwork from a completely different perspective. As an Effective Communicator, Ava is learning that communication doesn’t always have to be spoken or written - digital tools and visuals can tell a story, share information, and help others see a place in a whole new way.
A new perspective, a new tool, and another example of how our BAMS kiddos are finding new ways to explore, learn, and tell the story of the work they’re doing beyond the classroom. #MovingForward #YourStory #BCPSBAMS #BernheimForest
In this episode of **BCPS Beyond the Bell**, Dr. Bacon chats with Riverview Opportunity Center senior and Governor’s Scholar Cordelia Kellie to talk about challenging herself, managing her time, working with different perspectives, and learning from setbacks.
“I like seeing if I can actually do it, and if I fail, it just pushes me to improve and try harder.”
Hear how Cordelia’s experiences are helping prepare her for what comes next and the advice she has for students beginning their own high school journey.

💛 BCPS Childhood Cancer Awareness Week: August 31st–September 4th
Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month? Across the United States, more than 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, roughly 43 kids every day. Here in Kentucky, our children are diagnosed at a rate about 7% higher than the national average, with leukemia and brain tumors being the most common forms.
Let's spread awareness and show our support during BCPS Childhood Cancer Awareness Week!
📣 Monday, 8/31 – Team Up for a Cure: Wear your favorite sports team attire.
☀️ Tuesday, 9/1 – Glow for a Cure: Brighten up the halls and wear neon!
🧢 Wednesday, 9/2 – Put a Lid on It: Top off your outfit for Hat Day.
👢 Thursday, 9/3 – Give Cancer the Boot: Dust off your boots and wear them to school.
🖤 Friday, 9/4 – Black Out the Battle, Light Up the Hope: Wear black or show your school spirit!
All BCPS schools are collecting individually wrapped snack items throughout the week to restock local hospital family snack pantries. Drop off your donations in your school's collection bin anytime August 31st–September 4th to support families during hospital stays.

Before the data collection begins, our BAMS students are taking time to explore, observe, and get to know the incredible spaces at Bernheim that will become their outdoor classrooms!
We are so thankful for our continued partnership with Bernheim and for the shared spaces and experiences that allow our students to take their learning beyond the classroom. Over the coming months, our students will become Mastery Learners as they dive into authentic field research—studying everything from water quality and soil quality to the bees and other organisms that call Bernheim home.
There is something special about watching students go from simply exploring a place to truly knowing, studying, and contributing to it. We are excited to see where their research takes them this year! #MovingForward #YourStory #BCPSBAMS

LIVE from the American Revolution!
Today, Ms. Todd’s freshmen turned the classroom into a colonial newsroom for their Revolutionary Newscast project. Students became news anchors, on-the-scene reporters, and historical figures as they reported on the events and conflicts that pushed the colonies toward revolution.
Instead of just learning what happened, they had to explain why it mattered, how colonists reacted, and what the story might have looked like as breaking news in the 1770s.
So much creativity, teamwork, and historical thinking on display today!

Picture Day is coming to ROC! Underclassmen and Seniors will have pictures on Friday August 28th from 7:30am - 9:00am. See the graphic for information. #BCPSROC

What a great first week for our BAMS students! Students spent the week exploring ROC, meeting our staff and other important faces around the building, learning about the clubs and activities our school has to offer, and getting to know their classmates and teachers a little better. We also spent time talking about expectations and what it means to be part of BAMS before ending the week with a STEM challenge!
This first week was all about team building, problem solving, and building our BAMS community, and we are so glad to have this group together. We’re excited to see what this year brings! #MovingForward #YourStory #BCPSBAMS
