Mariah Gardner

Congratulations to Bullitt East High School and Riverview Opportunity Center (ROC) senior Mariah Gardner on her commitment to Campbellsville University! Mariah looks to major in Criminal Justice and intends to utilize her previous college credit acquired through ROC’s dual credit program through Campbellsville and Jefferson Community Technical College (JCTC). Mariah will also participate in the women’s wrestling program at Campbellsville.

“I chose Campbellsville because it has classes that will benefit the career path I intend on pursuing,” said Mariah. “Campbellsville has a great tradition of women’s wrestling, allowing me to continue the sport I love in a small-town college.”

BCPS aims “to inspire and equip our students to succeed in life” by utilizing our Graduate Profile, developed and revised using feedback from staff, students, parents, community members, and local businesses. The Profile includes six competencies focused on empowering and equipping BCPS students for life after high school. To help fulfill the goals of this Profile, BCPS provides multiple dual credit programs through ROC and local universities and technical colleges to allow students to explore a variety of career paths. By participating in these programs, our students learn to become Mastery Learners, Self-Directed Navigators, and Community Contributors. Mariah was able to follow one of these paths through the Criminal Justice dual credit pathway program.

The Criminal Justice dual credit pathway program debuted at BCPS in 2021 and is housed by the Riverview Opportunity Center in conjunction with Campbellsville University (CU). This program allows juniors and seniors to take dual credit classes in Criminal Justice, and these course credits can then be applied to a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration. Areas of study within this curriculum include law enforcement, the courts, corrections, criminology, delinquency, and victimology. Credits are then transferable to CU after graduation. Graduates of the Criminal Justice Administration program have the opportunity to pursue careers such as:

  • Agent in the CIA, FBI, DEA, Secret Service

  • Crime Prevention Specialist

  • Criminal Investigator

  • Supervisor of Corrections Officer

  • Homicide Detective

  • Probation Officer

  • Sheriff

  • And more

If your child is interested in pursuing any of the careers listed above, encourage him or her to reach out to their counselor to learn more about this program!

Congratulations on your success, Mariah! BCPS will be rooting for you for years to come.
