bowman's valley school

Bullitt County, KY — April 24, 2025 — In a moving tribute to the historical significance of Bowman’s Valley School, Bullitt County Public Schools hosted a special event at the original schoolhouse building, located on the Board of Education property. The event, titled “Bowman’s Valley: A Legacy of Resilience,” was a heartfelt reflection on the past and a celebration of the future, honoring the perseverance and achievements of those who once walked the halls of this historic institution.

Students, staff, families, and community members gathered for a day of remembrance and learning. The ceremony opened with a warm welcome from BCPS Superintendent Dr. Jesse Bacon and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Adrienne Usher. The Bullitt Central High School Chamber Choir provided stirring performances, including the national anthem, the timeless anthem “We Shall Overcome,” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” setting a tone of reverence and unity.

Representatives Darlene Ayers and Gwinn Thompson spoke on behalf of the Bowman’s Valley School community, sharing stories that highlighted the spirit of perseverance and community pride that continue to define the Bowman’s Valley legacy. Their reflections served as a reminder of the profound impact of education, equity, and resilience across generations.

The vision and execution of the event were brought to life through the leadership and dedication of Stefanie Kleinholter, who led the overall planning and coordination of the ceremony and event logistics. Her efforts ensured a seamless, impactful experience that honored the deep history of Bowman’s Valley School.

On the instructional side, Instructional Coach Gina Weber served as the BCPS project coordinator and collaborator, guiding the educational vision for the event. Her work was instrumental in connecting the day’s themes with Bullitt County’s commitment to shaping compassionate, future-focused leaders, ensuring that the program meaningfully engaged students and the broader community.

Following the ceremony, visitors explored a Student Showcase hosted at Bullitt Central High School. Students demonstrated their talents as Effective Communicators, Productive Collaborators, and Community Contributors—key competencies in the BCPS Graduate Profile—through thoughtful projects that reflected their understanding of history, culture, and community impact.

The event closed with remarks of gratitude from Dr. Adrienne Usher, emphasizing the district’s ongoing commitment to embracing differences, shared accountability, and service before self—values that continue to move Bullitt County Public Schools forward.
