Its mission is to prepare Kentucky’s brightest students for leadership roles in a knowledge-based economy by immersing them in a rigorous STEM-focused environment.
Key features of the Academy include:
Academic Excellence: Students complete their final two years of high school living in Florence Schneider Hall while taking university courses. They graduate with a high school diploma, at least 60 college credit hours, and an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Selective Admissions: Applicants undergo a holistic evaluation of ACT/SAT scores, grades, extracurriculars, and essays. Finalists must also complete interviews with WKU faculty, community leaders, and alumni.
Beyond the Classroom: The experience is enriched through faculty-led research and global study abroad opportunities in locations such as Costa Rica and England.
Statewide Impact: The Academy fosters a diverse community of scholars, having served students from 118 of Kentucky’s 120 counties. It acts as a pipeline for future scientists and engineers, keeping talent rooted in the Commonwealth.
