SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY — Jason Ryan, an automotive instructor at the Bullitt County Area Technology Center (ATC) and executive council member for SkillsUSA Kentucky, was honored in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 IndyCar race weekend.
As the weekend race sponsor, Snap-on Tools partnered with SkillsUSA to highlight educators and students inspiring the next generation of skilled technicians. When Snap-on asked SkillsUSA to nominate an outstanding educator to attend as their guest, the national organization selected Ryan for his innovative program development and impactful mentorship.
At Bullitt County ATC, Ryan leads dynamic, authentic learning initiatives designed to mirror real-world industry operations. His students recently restored a 1985 Ford Thunderbird into a high-performance drag race car, expanding the curriculum into the racing industry. To further build professional habits, Ryan utilizes drag-strip time clocks to teach precise time management. This year, he is implementing TechMetric shop management software, training students to process work orders, track job times, manage consumables, and log technician notes just as a commercial facility would.
To expand opportunities and attract new students to technical pathways, Ryan is also introducing a new dual-credit electrical course serving both the automotive and diesel tracks.
"It is a big honor that SkillsUSA recognized our program," said Ryan, who also helps lead the SkillsUSA Kentucky State Officer team and annual state conference. "I was excited to represent Bullitt County Public Schools and our ATC at the national level."
During the event at the Milwaukee Mile, Snap-on sponsored Ryan’s trip, interviewed him regarding his curriculum, and showcased his program alongside national SkillsUSA student champions.
