Tomorrow, September 25th (9-2-5 aka 9 to 5 day), Overdale Elementary will celebrate the legacy of Dolly Parton with "Butterflies, Books, and Kindness Day." This special day gives our school community a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Dolly’s enduring legacy of literacy, generosity, and joy while fostering a culture of kindness among our students. To help bring the celebration into the classroom, we have put together a list of suggested colors/clothing to be worn on the attached graphic.
Every student will also receive a special butterfly sticker when they walk in as well as celebrate the day with literacy and kindness activities.
Don't forget! New Overdale Spirit Wear is now live for purchase. Grab a hoodie or a cool tie-dye tee for this fall. Sale goes through October 2. Paper order forms will be sent home with students next week, but the website is live now at https://overdale.itemorder.com/shop/home/
The information collected helps our school maintain our CEP status, which allows all students to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost.
THANK YOU to everyone who has already completed the form! We truly appreciate your help and support.

Fifth graders used Character Body Biographies to dig deeper into the characters in our novel, Blood on the River! 📖
Students worked together to analyze characters from head to toe—examining their thoughts, feelings, words, actions, motivations, relationships, and experiences. They used evidence from the text to support their thinking and made connections about our characters that we may not have noticed before! 🧠💬🔍
It was a great way to bring our characters to life while thinking beyond the surface! ❤️
Whether it’s a warm morning greeting or a personal phone call home to check in when a student is absent, Mrs. Shelly makes sure our families feel supported and every child knows they are missed when they aren't here.
Showing up "all day, every day" builds bright futures. Thank you, Mrs. Shelly, for your relentless dedication to keeping our school community connected, cared for, and present!
Today, we’re sending a big shout-out to two amazing teachers who keep creativity alive at Overdale:
🎶 Mrs. Oliver (Music)
🎨 Ms. Walker (Art)
Thank you both for inspiring our students to sing, create, and imagine big every single day! We appreciate all that you do! 🙌✨
Book fair is ready for shoppers tomorrow! Don't forget that adults may come in and shop with students starting at 8:50 tomorrow. We will also have shopping time for adults and students on Thursday evening from 5-7PM.
