This morning, we celebrated our incredible bus drivers and lunch heroes with a special breakfast and heartfelt, handwritten cards from our students. Their dedication, kindness, and behind-the-scenes work keep our school running smoothly every day. We’re so grateful for the care they show our kids—whether it’s with a warm meal or a safe ride. Thank you for being everyday heroes!
We're growing something special at OMES—and we need your help! Our school garden is in need of donations such as twigs, dead leaves, mulch, top soil, worms, water bulbs, food waste(fruit and veggies). Today we had the privilege of honoring our Purple Star military kids! These are the kids who currently have a parent serving in one of the branches of our Armed Services. These kids show bravery, strength, resiliency, and courage as their parent serves our country. It is with our deepest gratitude that we honor the sacrifices made by our military children. We are so proud to have them at Old Mill!

Community Spotlight: Kentucky Derby Museum
Last week we were thrilled to welcome the Kentucky Derby Museum to OMES! Representatives from the museum visited each grade level to share the rich history and fun facts about the Kentucky Derby. Through hands-on activities and interactive presentations, our students had an engaging and memorable experience — just in time for Derby season!

On Friday, we celebrated our students’ hard work on the i-Ready diagnostics with an epic NERF battle! 💥
Throughout the year, our students have been diligently working on their personalized learning paths, taking three major assessments to track their growth. i-Ready Diagnostic provides teachers with a complete picture of student performance relating to their grade level and national norms .
To honor those who met their individual goals, we turned the school into a NERF war zone! 🏃♂️🔫

BE students teamed up with 4th graders last week to bring fractions to life through hands-on learning! From dividing up snacks to measuring ingredients, the BE leaders helped make math more meaningful and fun. It was a great example of students learning from each other in creative, interactive ways!

1st Grade is currently in the lead with 71%, but 5th Grade is right on their heels at 70.4%!

OMES students showed off their future dreams in style as they dressed for careers in technology, communications, hospitality, tourism, and the arts! From tech-savvy innovators to creative designers and world explorers, our students embraced the chance to express their passions and imagine the paths they may one day follow.
Today our 2nd graders visited Bowman Valley and presented their showcase, exploring the question: “How can we learn from the past to make schools better for everyone in the future?” We are so proud of them—when we give big tasks to kids, it’s amazing what they can do!
At Old Mill, our commitment to kids goes far beyond the classroom.
Whether it’s in the school building or out on the ballfield, we believe in showing up for the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially. Supporting students means being there for them wherever they are, because that’s what it means to be part of the Old Mill family. 💙

"While doing an extension activity, Lennon and Nolan took it upon themselves to create their own "gamified" version of the activity. All completely unprompted, they even went further and asked if they could add their own, more-challenging game cards as we progress through our time unit!" -Mrs. Marinesi
Shout-out to our amazing OMES Koalas who represented Old Mill so well at the STLP State Competition! They proudly shared how our school’s broadcast and podcast are produced, participated in a live news quiz show, and even got to meet Kelsey Starks, the show’s host! It was an incredible day full of hands-on experiences and learning how to lead through technology. We are so proud of their hard work and passion!
It’s Administrative Professionals Day, and we can’t let the day go by without celebrating the amazing women who are the heartbeat of Old Mill.
These women love our kids, support our staff, and somehow manage the behind-the-scenes chaos with grit and grace.
