Our 4th graders just wrapped up a science unit where they were able to take an inquiry approach to researching and comparing multiple solutions that reduce the impact of natural disasters on communities. They launched their inquiry with a visit from Hannah Hartley the emergency preparedness coordinator with the BC Health Department. She discussed ways that BC not only prepares and responds to natural disasters but also how BC helps other communities like North Carolina and Florida. Our students were able to be effective communicators and productive collaborators as they investigated the impacts of natural disasters and then used their research to create and produce a podcast. Students used an AI tool to create an outline for their podcast, they used that outline to write a script, and then recorded their podcast with help and guidance from our DLC Ms. Marker. We are so proud of all our 4th graders!

It felt good to get back to Ballin' with Bickley today. This crew schooled me while playing Knock Out!

Texas Roadhouse Gift Card fundraiser is due tomorrow (11-22-2024). Be sure to bring in your money and forms!

UofL/UK Swag is needed for our UofL/UK Beanstack reading challenge. Prize drawings on December 4th will be awarded to students who read for at least 60 minutes each week the next two weeks and the number of prizes depends on how much Swag is donated. Mrs. Egan already has some and is hoping for even more to give away. Send in any UofL or UK giveaways to Mrs. Egan by Tuesday, December 3rd.

It's always so much fun to have a friend to help me greet our students in the morning! Thank you Mia!

By looking at how virtual reality can be a tool for learning Mrs. Johnson's class practiced using elaboration to strengthen a claim suing the evidence provided. After practicing students reflected on their learning during seminar.

Mrs. Gary's mathematicians are using materials and drawings to build toward mental math computation. They have been using base ten blocks, bead racks, and ten frames to find quicker ways to solve equations.

This sweet friend did a fantastic job helping me greet our classes this morning! Thanks Cameron!

Many Veterans were honored at Pleasant Grove Elementary representing the Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines and one from the newest branch, the Space Force. Our oldest Veteran of the day, 103 year old Buford Wilson, received a standing ovation in the afternoon program. He was staff sergeant in the 93rd Ordinance Unit, U.S. Army during WWII, and served four years. He was in Sicily, Italy, France, Germany, Austria & North Africa. The 93rd Ordnance was unique because it was the first to ever travel with the front lines and fully service all equipment. As a result, members earned several combat ribbons. He also was one of six brothers serving in WWII—all safely came home, and he is the last one living.
USA Cares, a family and military support program whose mission is to provide post-9/11 military veterans, service members, and their families with emergency financial assistance and post-service skills, was presented a check for $1,279.80 that was raised from our "Hats off to Veterans Day" on Friday. Visit USAcares.org to find out more about the organization or make a donation.
Many tears were shed as the students performed America the Beautiful, led by fifth graders June Wasinger, Kadynn Smith, Rebekah Skaggs and Sadie Hall. Our student emcees for the program were Emma Bates and Jacob Newton. Veterans and their guests enjoyed a reception in the library and a photo with their Veteran that will be sent home with students. Thank you to the students, staff and especially our Veterans for making this day so special!

Congratulations to our 2024-2025 teacher of the year, Mrs. Haffner! She is amazing and we are lucky to have her as a part of our PGE family!

Principal Watson was a busy fella leading PGE with confidence and kindness today! He met with SPLASH ticket winners, delivered Positive Office Referrals, monitored the cafeteria during lunch, finalized the eNews, and completed many Principal Pop-ins to reward positive behavior😊 Principal Watson even found time to enjoy Fun Friday with his third grade friends. He did a wonderful job as our Principal for the Day!
