Koala Grad Profile in Action! Ruby and Leo took a step back in time during their visit to a Dutch Village, where they explored the rich history, traditions, and innovation behind Dutch culture. They learned about klompens (wooden clogs) and discovered why wood became the practical choice for footwear centuries ago. Through hands-on problem-solving activities, they experienced the challenges of making wooden shoes and even learned that many farmers still wear them today, with some decorated for special occasions. Their adventure also included discovering how traditional stroopwafels are made and how this beloved treat has been passed down through generations while adapting to modern tools and techniques. From exploring history and culture to thinking critically and experiencing traditions firsthand, Ruby and Leo showed what it means to be Mastery Learners and Innovative Problem Solvers. We love seeing our Koalas learning far beyond the classroom and discovering the world around them!

Popsicles at the Playground was a huge success! 🍦💙 We loved seeing our newest Koalas meeting new friends, families connecting, and our PTO creating such a fun evening for everyone. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it such a special event, it was the perfect way to kick off the school year! 📣 Kindergarten families: We can’t wait to see you tomorrow for our final day of Kindergarten Camp! Online registration is open for ALL students, both new and returning families! ✅ Every student must complete online registration before they can be placed on a class list for the upcoming school year. This week, a group of our incredible teachers spent their summer attending the KCM Numeracy Counts training, investing their time in strengthening math instruction and discovering new strategies to support every learner. This week, Mrs. Melcher, our school counselor, attended the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Annual Conference, where she joined thousands of school counselors from across the country to learn, collaborate, and bring back the latest strategies to support student success!

🌟 Koala Grad Profile in Action! 🌟 Our Koalas are proving that learning doesn’t stop when summer begins! This group of amazing Koalas (and one future Kindergarten Koala! 🐨💙) recently competed at Dance Nationals in Fort Walton Beach, where they put our Graduate Profile into action. 💗 Productive Collaborators – They encouraged one another, worked as a team, and celebrated each other’s successes every step of the way. 💚 Mastery Learners – Months of practice, perseverance, and dedication helped them master their routines and perform on the national stage. We are so proud to see our students taking the skills they build at Old Mill beyond the classroom and into their passions. Whether they’re competing, creating, serving, exploring, or learning something new, our Koalas continue to show what it means to be lifelong learners. Way to represent Old Mill! We are so proud of you!

🎉 Kindergarten Camp Starts Next Tuesday! 🎉

We can't wait to welcome our newest Koalas and their families to Old Mill Elementary!

Here are a few friendly reminders to help your first day go smoothly:

📅 Kindergarten Camp
🕘 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
🚪 Doors open at 8:50 AM

✨ Drop-Off: Families will walk their kindergarten student into the building each morning.

🚗 Pick-Up: Students will be dismissed through our car rider line. We will be practicing this routine with students throughout camp, so please display your car rider tag in your front windshield where staff can easily see it.

👟 What to Wear: Please send your child in play clothes and tennis shoes so they can comfortably participate in all of our activities.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent Meeting – Thursday
📍 Cafeteria
🕘 9:00–10:00 AM (immediately following drop-off)

This meeting is an important opportunity to learn about kindergarten, ask questions, and help your child have a successful start to the school year.

Whether they're celebrating successes, offering comfort, or encouraging students through challenges, they pour their hearts into every single day. 🌿 Old Mill Back-to-School Beautification Day! 🌿 As we get ready to welcome our students back for another amazing school year, we need your help getting our campus looking its very best! 📅 Saturday, August 8 ⏰ 8:00–10:00 AM We’re hoping for all hands on deck as we work together to spruce up our landscaping and outdoor spaces before the first day of school. Whether you can stay for the full two hours or just stop by for a little while, every helping hand makes a difference! If you have gardening tools, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, pressure washers, or other landscaping equipment you’re willing to bring or let us borrow, we’d be incredibly grateful.
