Principals are at the heart of every school, and this month we’re celebrating them in style during National Principals Month! 🏫
Throughout October, we’ll be featuring our principals here in BCPS, but first—here are some fun facts about principals you might not know (and yes, they’re backed by research!):
📚 Principals Shape Student Success: According to the Wallace Foundation, school leadership is second only to classroom instruction in its impact on student learning. 🚀 That’s right, principals help launch our students toward greatness!
🕒 Long Days, Big Impact: The average principal works about 60 hours a week, according to the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). They are true champions of commitment, often the first to arrive and the last to leave.
🏫 Master Multitaskers: Did you know that principals handle hundreds of decisions a day, from scheduling and budgeting to student issues? It’s like juggling, but with even more moving pieces! 🤹♀️
🤝 Community Builders: Principals spend roughly 60% of their time building relationships with students, staff, and families, according to the School Leaders Network. They’re the glue that keeps everything (and everyone!) connected. ❤️
Stay tuned all month as we celebrate our amazing BCPS principals who go above and beyond every single day! 🎉

🎉 Recently, we proudly unveiled 19 posters featuring our 2024 "Very Important Partners", who serve as role models for their peers and proudly stand for a drug-free lifestyle! We’re so proud of these students for setting a great example and making a difference! 💪✨ #MovingForward

🚨 BCPS Calendar Update 🚨
Due to the State Board of Elections' decision to allow the use of our schools as early voting sites, all BCPS schools will be closed on October 31st and November 1st for the safety and security of our students and staff.
Unfortunately, NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) cannot be used for these days, as state law only allows NTI in very specific, limited situations. Due to this, we will have to make up these days in our calendar.
Check out the graphic here for details on how this year’s school calendar has changed. We appreciate your understanding as we work through these adjustments. #MovingForward

👏 We’re thrilled to spotlight our THRIVE Academy teachers! At a recent event, these first-year educators dove into professional learning around master teacher competencies, began documenting their growth, and explored engaging tech tools from our District Digital Learning Coaches to enhance classroom learning. Plus, they received invaluable insights on student support and relationship-building from Stephanie Warner, our Safe Schools and Mental Health District Support Coach.
We’re proud of their commitment to #MovingForward and creating impactful learning experiences for their students! 💡📚
