Does your child love the outdoors, gardening, and discovering new ways to help our planet? Energy Club may be the perfect fit! Students will grow, learn, lead, and work together to make a positive impact on our school and community.

Student Spotlight: OMES Broadcast Team

Huge shout-out to the OMES Broadcast Team for stepping up as incredible student leaders! Running the morning show takes serious teamwork, focus, and energy. Thank you for setting the tone, keeping us informed, and getting every single school day started on the right foot. You rock!

Next week, BCPS is coming together for Childhood Cancer Awareness Week! 💛 Join us August 31–September 4 as we show our support with a fun spirit week while raising awareness for an important cause. 💙 Monday: Team Up for a Cure — Wear your favorite team attire ✨ Tuesday: Glow for a Cure — Wear neon 🧢 Wednesday: Put a Lid on It — Hat Day 👢 Thursday: Give Cancer the Boot — Wear your boots 🖤 Friday: Black Out the Battle, Light Up the Hope — Wear black or school spirit wear Throughout the week, we will also be collecting individually wrapped snack items to support hospital family snack pantries. Donations can be sent in with students. Let’s fill Old Mill with HOPE and show our support for children and families impacted by childhood cancer. 💛

Information for our 4th and 5th graders for upcoming opportunities! Sports physicals are required for both of these sporting teams before they can attend tryouts.

Our spirit store is back open! It will close on September 11th.

This week's Staff Spotlight goes out to Mrs. Crepps. Mrs. Crepps is already making such an incredible impact at Old Mill! She brings so much patience and care to our students, is always willing to jump in and help wherever she is needed, and has been such a wonderful support in the classroom. Her knowledge and passion for our school garden are an added bonus, and we are so excited to see how she helps it grow! In such a short time, Mrs. Crepps has already become such a valuable part of our school community. We are so thankful to have her on our team!

Our @apexleadershipco fundraiser kicks off on 8/31, and this year's theme is Apex Super Heroes. For two full weeks, students will unlock real-life superpowers: steadiness, reliability, uplifting others, and more.

Camp KOAla was the perfect way to celebrate being back together! 💙🐨💛 Beautiful weather, tie-dye, swimming, playground fun, and lots of laughter with some of our favorite people! There’s nothing better than seeing our Koala community come together, have fun, and make memories. A HUGE thank you to our amazing PTO and the KOA for putting this special evening together for our families! We are so grateful for the time, planning, and effort that went into making Camp KOAla such a fun night for our school community. Such a FUN Back-to-School Bash and the perfect way to kick off another amazing year at Old Mill! ☀️💦🐨

We are excited to get our Old Mill Girls’ Basketball season started! Girls interested in playing are encouraged to attend our upcoming open gyms and tentative tryouts.

⭐ Tentative Tryouts: Friday, September 11 | After school–5:45 PM

Important Reminders:

* Open to 4th and 5th grade girls
* All participants must have a current Sports Physical on file with the school
* Open gyms, tryouts, and future practices are closed to the public
* Coaches will walk players to the main entrance for dismissal at 5:45 PM
* We recommend that girls bring an extra snack to have before practice

🏡 House Hunters: 4th Grade Edition! Our 4th graders kicked off their House Hunters PBL today by putting their math skills to work in the real world! Students explored needs vs. wants, virtually toured homes in Kentucky and another state, compared different price points, and took on a Budget Challenge to see what homes they could afford. Along the way, they’re discovering how place value and large numbers matter when making real-life financial decisions. This is what we love to see, standards coming to life through authentic, meaningful learning!

A HUGE shoutout to some amazing community partners who helped make our first week back extra special! 💙💛 🥞 Church of the Crossroads kicked off our week by providing breakfast for our staff! 🍳 Our incredible PTO treated everyone to breakfast on Opening Day! 🥪 Sanders Ridge provided lunch for our staff on the first day of school! Starting a new school year takes a lot of energy, and these thoughtful gestures meant more than you know. Thank you for loving on our staff, feeding us well, and helping make our first week back that much better! We are so grateful to be part of a community that takes such great care of our Old Mill family. 💙🐨💛

We are so excited to officially welcome Officer B. Muzik to the Old Mill family as our new School Resource Officer! Officer Muzik will be a familiar face around our school, building relationships with students, supporting our staff and families, and helping us continue to make Old Mill a safe and welcoming place for every Koala!

Please take a moment to review our Arrival & Dismissal Expectations for car riders, bus riders, and walkers. A few reminders as we get started: 🚗 Have your car rider tag ready each day. 🚌 Please expect possible bus delays during the first few days as drivers learn their routes. 🚶 Walkers should arrive no earlier than 8:50 and enter through the front doors. 💙 Give us a little extra patience this first week as students, families, and staff settle into our routines. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Koalas safe and get everyone where they need to be!
